Skills Bootcamps - Steps to OLE
Skills Bootcamps aim to secure benefits for adults 19+ by giving them access to in-demand skills training and a guaranteed interview for a more sustainable, higher-skilled job and higher wages over time. The benefits for employers include helping them fill specific skills shortage vacancies, enabling them to become more productive, more quickly.
We have developed a range of Skills Bootcamp models which aim to provide employed learners with the skills, knowledge, behaviours and competencies required to meet the skills shortages within the Overhead Line Electrification (OLE) sector. Our Skills Bootcamp models are flexible training courses lasting up to 16 weeks.
In addition to the core competencies listed below learners will also have the opportunity to complete sessions on Emergency First Aid with Electrical Incidents, Health and Safety, Working at Height with Harness, Manual Handling, CV writing, Lifesaving Rules and Network Rail Code of Conduct if this is required
The Isolation Model 1 Bootcamp is designed to train Level B (Authorised) persons who are responsible for working under direction of the Level A (Nominated) Person to achieve isolations on AC OLE in their daily work, train persons who have been nominated by their line manager/sponsor to enable them to attain the Controller of Site Safety (COSS) competence and to familiarise persons who are new to OLE Engineering and whose work may involve or interact with OLE Construction Activities.
The Isolation Model 2 Bootcamp is designed for Sentinel track safety card holders who are required to undertake the duties of a Nominated Person duties on the railway infrastructure.
This Bootcamp is designed for persons whose work will involve the construction, renewal, enhancement and modification of OLE in accordance with design drawing specifications. The elements that learners will undertake deal with installation/attachment of main steelwork to the foundations, the attachment of brackets and fittings to accommodate registration assemblies, the running out of conductors and wires, the adjustment and registration of the conductors to their final positions and installation of discrete assemblies such as section insulators, neutral sections, switches, isolators, jumpers and cross contact assemblies, the installation of earthing and bonding and testing/gauging the equipment to make sure that it meets its operating requirements.
This Bootcamp is designed to familiarise persons who are new to OLE Engineering and whose work may involve or interact with OLE Construction activities. It will provide the underpinning knowledge and sufficient practical experience to be able to operate the specific host machine in a safe and correct manner in line with current best practice.
The Safety Critical Model Bootcamp is designed to train persons who have been nominated by their line manager/sponsor to enable them to attain the Controller of Site Safety (COSS) competence; to provide the underpinning knowledge and sufficient practical experience to be able to operate the specific host machine in a safe and correct manner in line with current best practice; to instruct delegates on correctly determining their roles and responsibilities of undertaking Point Operator Duties; to instruct delegates on correctly determining their roles and responsibilities when undertaking the duties of a Level Crossing Attendant and to provide a basic knowledge required under OLEC 1 to access OLE construction sites safely and effectively for those who are directly or indirectly involved with OLE construction activities.
